What does your logo stand for? Although Tang Soo Do is a korean martial art we have chosen the chinese character to represent the strong chinese influence that is woven into the style. Our school logo contains the chinese character "Moo" for Moo Duk Kwan which is the particular style of the Tang Soo Do we study. "Moo" means to "Stop Conflict" The meaning of Moo Duk Kwan stands for Institute of Martial Virtue or Virtuous Warrior. The Red stripes on the sides within the midnight blue background represents the Masters belt.

What got me in to Tang Soo Do?
I wanted to train in martial arts for many years prior to taking lessons. After searching for an instructor, a friend directed me to Mr James Grande, who was teaching at a church. Mr Grande, with his enthusiasm and excellent instruction, left me with a good foundation that would inspire me in the martial arts for years. "Kum up Sum Ni Da Mr Grande"

What is my favorite part of Tang Soo Do?
All of the friendships I have made over the years. People in Tang Soo Do are always willing to support you.

What got me in to Tang Soo Do?
My older brother started when I was 10 yrs old. I begged my parents to let me start lessons. I use to sit and watch my brother train in class then finally my parents let me start. It was, and still is one of the most memorable days of my life.

What is my favorite part of Tang Soo Do?
I really enjoy teaching and everyone I train with from the newest white belt up to the most senior black belt is a brother or sister to me. I have known this group for many years and would do it all over again just to be here with them.

My words of “wisdom” on Tang Soo Do.
If you do not start you will never finish. Age is just a number if you let that stop you, you are missing out on something very special.

What got me in to Tang Soo Do?
My best friend at the time was a student and convinced me to come in and try it. I decided to take the free lessons from Jim Grande, the founder of the school. It was such a great workout and family environment that I was hooked.

What is my favorite part of Tang Soo Do?
Tang Soo Do teaches you to have a kind of confidence that you never had in you life before. Being able to perform challenging spinning and jump kicks as well as difficult breaks are great examples of the mental training of our art. More importantly however, is how this confidence crosses over into all areas of your life, including work and family issues.

My words of “wisdom” on Tang Soo Do.
If only one thing was learned from the training of Tang Soo Do, I would suggest that it be mutual respect. One of the largest problems of our society is a total lack of respect between people, specifically coworkers and elders. All people, that I know, who are practitioners of Tang Soo Do both show respect to all others and are in turn very respected themselves. These people seem to go further in life and it is obvious that it is not merely a coincidence.

What is my favorite part of Tang Soo Do?
Our “Do Jang” is a big “Tang Soo Do” Family. Even the studios in the A.T.A. are like distance families to us.

My words of “wisdom” on Tang Soo Do.
-Don’t stop training hard
-Always finish what you start.
-Reach black belt
There is something that changes in you once you have a black belt wrapped around you.

What got me in to Tang Soo Do?
I had trained in Tai Chi with my friend Karen for 2 years. We decided that we needed something a little more strenuous. My manager had introduced me to Mr. James Grande who worked in the same department I did. He mentioned he had a martial arts school. Karen and I visited, tried the free sessions and stayed. She eventually had to leave for health reasons but I have stayed.

What is my favorite part of Tang Soo Do?
I enjoy practicing line forms. It helps me stay focused. I really enjoy pad work and using the wave masters when I have had a stressful day at work.

I enjoy working with the younger students helping them learn our art. It's nice to see them get promoted and to stay with it.

I enjoy the fellowship with the others. I always feel better not only because of the work out but for being with the people at the school.

My words of “wisdom” on Tang Soo Do.
For the Adults: This will help keep you young. I have arthritis in all my joints but because I keep training I am not as stiff. You may not move like the kids do but at least you are moving.

For the Kids: Keep coming and training as long as you can. Things will change in your lives and the discipline you learn here will help you.
